History & Architecture
The Church of St. Thomas Aquinas in Trockau is not only a Catholic parish church but has also officially been a motorway church since 2010. It offers travelers on the A9 a place of silence and reflection.
The modern church building was erected in the years 1949 to 1950 according to the plans of the Nuremberg architect Gerhard G. Dittrich. Despite the scarce resources in the post-war period, an impressive sacred building was created, which was consecrated in November 1950.
In 1969, the church tower was added. A former baptistery was converted into a prayer room specifically for travelers in 2011, underlining its character as a motorway church.
