Information about Trockau

A historical village in Upper Franconia

About Trockau

The market town of Trockau is a village in Upper Franconia and has been a district of the city of Pegnitz since 1978, with around 460 inhabitants (as of 2022).

Trockau is best known for its historical Trockau Castle, which was built in its current form between 1769 and 1779 and dates back to a medieval castle.

Due to its location between Bayreuth and Pegnitz on the A9 motorway, Trockau offers a quiet rural quality of life combined with good transport connections.

In addition, there is a lively village community with clubs such as the volunteer fire department, the choir and the fire brigade band, as well as local sports and leisure groups.

The striking Trockau Castle, as seen today, was built between 1769 and 1779. It was built on the site of a medieval castle that was destroyed several times over the centuries.

The castle is privately owned by the Groß von Trockau family and significantly shapes the townscape.

Motorway Church St. Thomas Aquinas

The Catholic parish church of St. Thomas Aquinas was built in 1950 by the residents of Trockau. In 2010, it was officially named the 38th motorway church in Germany.
